iPhone Restrictions – No Solution for Parenting

Restriction

My guess is most you, even the ones with kids, don’t know about the iPhones Restrictions settings. Believe it or not, they are there. I mean who doesn’t share their iPhone with their children – like when they are driving you nuts in the backseat of the car who doesn’t pass the iPhone back to shut them up. Well I guess you might not want them to turn on Bruno or some other movie you might have on the device. This is where this setting could come in handy but there is a better solution!! Tweetie 2 – My Most Used iPhone App

TweetieGiven the early returns of our latest poll, I decided I had to do an app review of my favorite app, Tweetie 2 ($2.99). I can’t believe the majority of you are not using Twitter? If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch then you really need to give it a try. Trust me on this and whether you agree or disagree – TRY IT – and give me some comments on this article please. The iPhone and Twitter are like peanut butter and jelly or chocolate and anything. Please, do yourself a favor and take a minute to hear my case ☺ Continue Reading…

iPhone App Review – Rock Band

Rock Band and Guitar Hero are two hugely popular games that let you hold a guitar, drumsticks or microphone while you play along to classic and popular songs. Tap Tap Revenge has had the iPhone market for this type of game and has been one of the most popular games for iPhone and iPod Touch. In fact, I read that over one third of all iPhones and iPod Touch have downloaded either the free or paid for version of Tap Tap. Electronic Arts Rock Band, $9.99, hit the app store this week to try and gain some of this market. First impression – talk about an addicting time waster! Continue Reading…

Twilight Scene It – For all you Vamp fans

TwilightDo you watch True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Twilight and read all the books? Well, see how big a fan your really are with this iPhone or iPod game. Scene It, Twilight, $4.99, from RealArcade plays just like the Scene It board games. There are Twilight-themed questions, movie clips, puzzles and mini-games. There also are two movie trailers from the upcoming New Moon which is scheduled to be released November 20. Continue Reading…

CoPilot Live 8 – Come Drive with Me

ALK Technologies CoPilot Live navigation for the iPhone, $34.99, is my app review for today. OK, I need to start this app review with full disclosure. First, I’ve never in my life used a GPS device let alone a turn by turn navigation system. I’ve seen one or two in a friends car, but never bothered to do more than glance at it. I’m a complete Newbie, but decided to give this a try for fun. After spending 30 minutes and not figuring out how to program my trip into the device I gave up and on some website’s Forum listed this as the worst app ever! I figured if you spend $34.99, you should be able to get it working. Well, after not using it for a month and decided to take another crack at it and I must say it was better, but the numerous times the app closed during my trip is a major issue. Continue Reading…

PwnageTool Jailbreak from Dev Team – YES!

If you are like me and on a Mac, blackra1n didn’t help you any. But once one jailbreak comes out, the others follow quickly. Check out the video that shows me re-jailbreaking my iPhone this morning to upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1.2 firmware. Rate and comment on it please. Yes, I need a tripod! It took about 30 minutes. PwnageTool is from the Dev Team who are widely regarded as providing the best jailbreaking tools. This is only for Macs and works for the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iTouch 1G & 2G, but not iTouch 3G. PC’s must wait or use another jailbreak tool like blackra1n. Continue Reading…

New Poll & Cheif idiot’s weekend thoughts . . .

So there was a lot of jailbreaking news this week and expect more early next week with the expected release of blackra1n. Should be exciting if you’re that geeky. Today had a little less geeky news of Tweetie 2 being released. It’s $3 even if you already have Tweetie and the developer is going to sell a ton. I use Tweetie as much as any other app. I love it. So this got me to thinking . . . . . . . Continue Reading…

Why Jailbreak? WinterBoard Themes – To Poof or Not?

SnowLeopardWhen I first jailbroke my iPhone well over a year ago every must have Cydia app list included WinterBoard. Until recently, however, I’ve never really used it. As most of you know, WinterBoard enables you to customize the look of your jailbroken iPhone in many ways. In this post I will show you the five themes I’ve had on my iPhone most recently and ask the key question – To Poof or Not to Poof? At this point there are thousands of themes you can download for your iPhone. Some are very basic and essentially just change the background or wallpaper of your iPhone or iPod. Others do this, plus add customized icons and sliders to give your theme an even more artistic look. Continue Reading…

iPhone & iPod News! – Jailbreaking & VoIP (Skype)

Real quick, no movies released this week as most request were answered in Forum. Lots of new TV shows from the weekend and last night so check them out.

Now for the news! In case you missed it, there has been a lot of iPhone news the past 48 hours centered around jailbreaking and VoIP (voice over IP). First, AT&T announced today it would allow VoIP over its 3G network. This is great news if you use apps like Skype. Now you can pretty much use Skype everywhere all the time (not just when you have a Wi-Fi connection). This will save some of you a ton of money especially if you make international calls a lot (yes Canada is an international call). However, I almost never make international calls so this news wasn’t too exciting to me. Furthermore, this doesn’t help Google Voice as Apple is the one preventing this (they rejected their app) or streaming video apps like Slingplayer as there is no way AT&T is close to letting this happen. In my opinion, streaming video apps would crash their network so they just can’t let it happen :( Continue Reading…

App Review – CNN Mobile

CNNCNN Mobile, $1.99, came out earlier this week and I have to say it looks great. You can watch live breaking news, see the top videos from all news categories (except sports) and most interestingly submit your own news stories to CNN through iReports. On the downside, most news apps are free but worst of all there is advertising within the app as well. As you can see here on the left, the display of the top stories is quite nice with the lead story on top and on average about 10 additional stories displayed below.
