In case you haven’t read it, some Dutch teenager hacked a bunch of iPhones and asked for five euros to fix them. You can read about it here. The main point is if you’ve jailbroken your iPhone you really should change the password. It’s very easy. I’ve got two easy ways to do it and a video that shows how. First, you have to have a Jailbroken iPhone with OpenSSH installed. If you want to get videos from Cycorder off of a 3G iPhone this is a requirement. Anyway, the first way is to install mobile terminal from Cydia. Find Mobile Terminal icon and open it. Type su – alpine – passwd – and then just type in your new password once and retype it a second time. That’s it, you are protected. A second way to do it is use Terminal on your Mac. See the video here as it only takes two minutes. All you need to know is the IP Address of your iPhone which I’m sure you know is Settings – Wifi – then touch the blue arrow next to your network. Again you really should do this. One day there will likely be a nasty virus that spreads do to root password being alpine. Change it!
