iTunes 9.1 is Out – Safe to Upgrade Unless you used Blackra1n

A few days ago Apple released iTunes 9.1. First off, if you have jailbroken or plan to maybe jailbreak one day you should never upgrade iTunes or your iPhone’s firmware or carrier settings unless you research it and find out it is safe first! The Dev-Team has confirmed it is safe to upgrade for all jailbreakers expect those that used blackra1n. I used PwnageTool and redsn0w so I upgraded and have had no issues. Now if you used blackra1n there is already a fix out called blackbreeze (don’t you love the names?) but its very new with mixed early reports. Bottom line, if you used blackra1n don’t upgrade until any issues with blackbreeze are resolved. Get ready, with the iPad and iPhone 4.0 coming in the next few months there should be lots of jailbreaking news.

Type 80 wpm on iPhone or iTouch with BTstack

BTstack from Cydia
For anyone using their jailbroken iPhone or iTouch mainly as a computer, you can type with any wireless bluetooth keyboard with BTstack. BTstack is a $5 app found in Cydia under BigBoss. This is another great app that I’m sure Apple will support at some point, but why wait? BTW, anyone notice how BigBoss has the best apps out there? Anyway, if you can type 80 words per minute, then you can type that fast on your iPhone. Continue Reading…

iPhone4idiots 4th Generation iPhone Wish List

4th iPhoneThis June or thereabouts Apple will release its latest version of the iPhone. Given my contract with ATT is up and I can get the “new” iPhone heavily discounted I’ve been thinking about it lately. I mean I love my jailbroken 3G so much that I doubt I would have bought the 3GS. I mean other than an extra megapixel in the camera it really didn’t offer much of anything I didn’t already have. Yes, it would be nice not to have to SSH to get my video recordings, but that’s really not a big deal. So what about the 4th generation? Well, there are four main things I’m waiting for. Buying an iPad? Not til Steve Quits Holding Back

iPad
Estimates are Apple sold over 120,000 iPads on the first day pre-orders were available. Officially sales begin on April 3, 2010 and analysts predict 3 to 4 million iPads will be sold in the first 12 months! I started a new poll for the first time in awhile to see if anyone is planning on getting one? Anyway, a brief review for those not paying attention. The iPad is a 9.7 inch multi-touch display that’s just 0.5 inches thick and weighs 1.5 pounds. It has built in wireless and 10 hours of battery life. Prices range from $499 to $829 depending on the size (16, 32 or 64 GB) and whether or not it has 3G capabilities. Obviously, to use 3G you would have to get a contract. Personally, I’m not buying one yet for two main reasons. Continue Reading…

iPhone4idiots App Review – PogoPlank from Cydia

PogoPlank
PogoPlank, $1.99 from BigBoss on Cydia, is an awesome app that allows you to theme your jailbroken iPhone or iTouch down to one page. That’s right, no more swiping through pages of icons as they are all listed underneath folders on the home page. Almost all the Pogoplank themes follow the format of having the folders displayed in a wheel. This will make sense once you see the screen shots in this post and watch the video step by step here. Check it out as the guide shows you a very cool theme dedicated to my favorite drink – Guinness!!! Continue Reading…

Cydia App Review – Infinidock and ProSwitcher

ProSwitcher
For those of you whose iPhone or iTouch is jailbroken I thought I’d share a few cool apps. First, watch this two minute video here to see what these apps do. IMO, this is the best video I’ve made in awhile. If you agree please leave me a comment. Infinidock, $0.99 on the BigBoss repo by chpwn, allows you to add upto 10 icons to your dock. While simple, this is very powerful. Continue Reading…

How to Unrar files for Mac & PC

Thought I’d make a guide about unraring files since some people aren’t sure how to do it. It’s really simple and there is also a step by step video at the end of the guide. To see how to convert files to mp4 see our guide here. So rar files are a way to breakup another file into smaller parts. Continue Reading…

iPhone4idiots App Review – Dr. Suess Storybooks for Children

iPhone storybook
Oceanhouse Media lowered the price of its six Dr. Seuss storybooks to $0.99 this week to celebrate what would have been the author and illustrator’s 106th birthday. I have to say “Bravo!” These are the best storybooks I have found on the iPhone! Much longer, with more pages and touchable pictures too. While not an authority on the subject, I’ve read more children’s storybooks on the iPhone than most people. I found Little Red Riding Hood and The Boy Who Cried Wolf to be enjoyable for both my kids and daddy. However, after having read both The Cat in the Hat and Dr. Suess ABC, Oceanhouse Media blows these others away. Continue Reading…

iPhone4idiots App Review – Air Mouse

Air Mouse
Air Mouse Pro, R.P.A. Tech $0.99, is a cool little app that transforms your iPhone or iPod Touch into a mouse. What’s great is the app works really well as you’ll see in the video below! Features include touchpad or single finger control, keyboard, left and right mouse buttons, a scroll button and more. Before the app will work you must download “server” software for your Mac or PC here. Don’t worry it’s pretty idiot proof :) Continue Reading…
