AngryBirds
Angry Birds, Clickgamer.com $0.99, is one of the most popular iPhone app games with the highest ratings I’ve ever seen. The app has been rated over 10,000 times with an average review score of 4.87 out of 5 stars. Thus, I figured I had to give it a try. I have to say I can see why its popular. First, it’s simple. It takes 20 seconds to figure out how to play. Second, it doesn’t get old as there are more than 100 levels. The irrelevant story behind the game which you can watch on YouTube is that pigs stole the birds eggs and they are out for revenge. To me the game is similar to tank wars as you use a slingshot to shoot “angry birds” at different towers and castles that protect the pigs. Destroy the pigs and move to the next level. One thing that makes the game so polished is that its not so simple. You have to determine what angle to shoot the angry birds at and also where is the castle’s weak spot. You can see the slingshot pictured above and one of the many castles protecting the green pigs below. You begin with red birds, but as the game progresses new birds are unlocked with special abilities that can be activated by tapping the screen mid-flight. AngryBirdsBlue birds burst into three smaller birds, yellow birds gain a sudden speed boost, black birds explode and white birds have exploding eggs. In each level, you’re given a collection of birds, so using each type to your advantage is necessary to move to the next level. The game can keep you busy for awhile as well because there are over 100 levels to play. While there is no multi player or leaderboards, Angry Birds does integrate with Crystal.
