It’s Official – Jailbreaking & Unlocking are Legal

It’s an urban legend that’s been around for years. Jailbreaking is illegal. It sounded good right? Well, I’ve told people for well over a year that it was not true and today the federal government made it official. Jailbreaking AND Unlocking your iPhone is legal. Take that Steve! Every three years the Library of Congress’ Copyright Office reviews and authorizes exemptions to a 1998 federal law that prohibits people from bypassing technical measures that companies put on their products to prevent unauthorized uses. The iPhone was given such an exemption so jailbreak and unlock away.

iPhone4idiots App Review – Dr. Seuss Oh, the Places You’ll Go

Places
Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go, $3.99, is just another quality release from Oceanhouse Media. If you’ve read some of my other children’s storybooks reviews you know I’m a big fan of Oceanhouse Media. They are clearly the leader in kids storybooks. That said, I didn’t like this one quite as much Dr. Seuss ABC or The Lorax, but that has more to do with the story itself and not the quality of presentation of the app. Continue Reading…

iPhone 4 Jailbreak Very Soon!

If you have an iPhone 4 and have been waiting for a Jailbreak, your wait is almost over. This is great news if you miss having 3G Unrestrictor, Winterboard or free apps! Members of the Dev Team (comex, planetbeing, etc.) have been hard at work and there tweets suggest its coming any day. In fact, Mike Cohen tweeted this morning, “What’s a good time to make it ra1n?” My reply – asap. BEFORE YOU JAILBREAK BACK UP YOUR SHSH HERE! The window to backup 4.0 firmware has already closed, but that’s no big deal because 4.0.1 is safe to do as there was no change in baseband. Again, I don’t know what all this means exactly, but if you want the option to jailbreak and unlock future firmware updates you need to do this now. I already did it on 4.0. I’ll be jailbreaking as soon as its out as other than switching web hosts this is priority number one and unlike the former actually fun!

iPhone4idiots Moving Update

Well the site is back up temporarily, but the bad news is its still with the old host. We tried to move it yesterday and stuck out. Basically 24 hours wasted. We’ll try again soon so if the site disappears just check our Facebook Page to see what’s up. I’m sure all this will be behind us soon enough and thanks for your patience. BTW, True Blood was really good. I love the Vampire speed dialing. Wish I could text on my iPhone that fast!

iPhone4idiots App Review – iChatr – Pulled From App Store

Places
iChatr, a free app from SKJM, LLC, is basically Chatroulette for your iPhone. I’ve been reviewing it the past week and today it got pulled from the App Store. Because you need the front facing camera it is or was only for iPhone 4 users. I spent 30 minutes on it last night and I must say its pretty entertaining for a sausage fest. I probably looked through or chatted with over 30 people and not one was a single female. There were some couples (including me as I had my wife beside me) but that was it. Anyway, for a brief description of the freaks and few normal people I talked to and why it got removed for the App Store. Continue Reading…

iPhone 4 – Full Refund or Free Bumpers!

Apple announced today that anyone who purchased an iPhone 4 from launch date through September 30 will get a free bumper or refund on their existing bumper. This should fix the reception problem. In addition, because Apple doesn’t have 3 million bumpers (that’s right they’ve sold 3 million iPhone 4’s so far) customers can choose a third party case (that’s what I want). There will be an order form on their website late next week. Also, as I’ve mentioned anyone can get a full refund with no restocking fee. I made this quick video for fun about the overblown coverage of the iPhone 4 reception issue. Please comment and subscribe! Lastly, we are switching web hosts soon so if the site goes down for awhile the way to keep up with everything is on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

New Firmware iOS 4.0.1 – No Point to Install

I’ll say it again. Rule number one to iPhone happiness is don’t upgrade your Firmware (or even iTunes) until its been out for at least two weeks and you’ve read that it is safe to do so. Many firmware upgrades don’t offer anything new that you’d actually use so there is no point anyway. That is the case with the firmware Apple released today 4.0.1. Further, some firmware upgrades don’t play nice on older iPhones (putting 4.0 on an iPhone 3G is a mistake) and if you jailbreak new firmwares might prevent you from being able to do so. So what does Apple say the new firmware offers and who should consider upgrading? Continue Reading…

iPhone4idiots App Review – Bowmaster

BowmasterBowmaster, iOccam, $0.99, is quite entertaining! It reminds me of a carnival game where you have the toy gun and shoot and knock over the ducks! In the iPhone app you challenge different players to an archery contest where you shoot at animal targets. A great shot knocks them over while an average hit requires a second arrow to finish the target off. Continue Reading…
