iPhone 4 Review

OK, now that I’ve had my iPhone 4 for a week I thought I’d give you my thoughts. The video includes retina display, multi tasking, folders, voice control, FaceTime and more! Please leave a comment :) While far from perfect, the bottom line is that if you are eligible to upgrade you should now. Sell your old iPhone on Ebay and you’ll proably have a few bucks left over in addition to a new iPhone 4. For other thoughts Continue Reading…

iPhone 4 Camera Worth the Upgrade

iPhone
I finally got my hands on the iPhone 4! One of the first things I did was compare the 5 megapixel camera to the 2 megapixel one in my old iPhone 3G. As expected, the difference was quite dramatic. When you open the camera there is an Auto focus button in the top left corner. Across in the top right corner is a button that switches from the rear camera to the front facing one. Not sure why you would want to do this? While the rear camera is 5 megapixels the front facing camera is VGA (about 0.5 megapixels). This is fine for video chat, but not for pictures. The bottom right has a slider that switches the camera from still to video! I see myself using this one quite a bit. To see how the pictures compared Continue Reading…

Apple Admits iPhone 4 Reception Problem – Not Really!

I find this quite humorous. Apple kind of admitted the iPhone 4 has a reception problem this morning. Well, not really. What they said is that the iPhone 4 (and all iPhones actually) were incorrectly displaying 4 or 5 bars when they were in a weak signal area. Thus, when you held the iPhone with the “death grip” you could see a drop of 4 bars. So they are claiming there is no reception loss. I thought the first step to recovery was admitting you had a problem? They promise a software fix in a few weeks so when you are in a weak area you will only see one or two bars and not the full load. What a joke. Sounds like they want to blame ATT. From what I’ve read there is a real issue here for some users. However, the bloggers are over reacting as the sales of the iPhone 4 were 1.7 million over the first weekend. My guess is there are a few thousand people having issues. While that is way too many lets keep it in perspective. I picked mine up yesterday afternoon along with one for my wife. I’ll let you know how it compares to my 3G reception after I’ve used it for a few days. In meantime here is a copy of Apple’s lame explanation Continue Reading…

iOS 4 – What idiots should know!

Still waiting on my iPhone 4. Should have pre-ordered before I left for South Africa, but as you know I’m an idiot. I’ll do a review after I’ve had it in my hands for a few days. Meantime, while a little late I thought I’d tell you what’s important about iOS 4. Sorry there are no pictures with this post, but like I said I’m still waiting on my iPhone 4. First, iOS 4 is just the latest firmware (essentially its firmware 4.0). Many of you probably have already upgraded, but most of you hopefully have not. Why? Again, my number one rule for iPhone happiness is NEVER upgrade your iPhone’s firmware until you have read to see if its worth doing (is there anything new and cool I want with the upgrade) and see if its safe. By safe I mean giving it a week or two to see if there are any issues being reported (like battery drain). This is doubly important if you have jailbroken your iPhone as you likely lose your jailbreak with the new firmware. So the three big new cool features in iOS 4 are Facetime (only for iPhone 4 and over wifi), Multitasking and Folders. Continue Reading…
