Hidden Panorama Feature in iOS 5 Not as Good as Apps

So you might have read iOS 5 has a hidden panorama feature that can easily be turned on if you are jailbroken. Conrad Kramer (@conradev) found out how to do this and it takes about 30 seconds with iFile. While cool that he found this there is a reason it is hidden. It’s quality is not great. Thus, I’m not even listing the simple instructions for enabling it. Ask in the comments if you really want it, but trust me. There is no reason to turn it on. Don’t worry, if you want nice quality panoramic photos on your iPhone check out Dermandar Panorama, Dermandar $1.99. It’s super fast and takes nice quality pictures which can easily be saved to your Camera Roll. Here are a couple of comparisons between the two. Continue Reading…

iPod Touch > Nook Tablet > Amazon Fire

Sorry for the geeky math equation title, but it’s true. Barnes and Nobel announced the most recent addition of the Nook product line today. The Nook Tablet is the direct competitor to the recently announced Amazon Kindle Fire. The Nook Tablet looks the same as the Nook Color and has the same 7 inch color display with the same resolution. However, the $249 “Tablet” offers better hardware with a 1Ghz processor and 1 GB of RAM. The Nook Tablet also offers 16GB of storage with an SD card slot for additional space. While it will be a little over a week before you can get your hands on either, do yourself a favor and pass on both for an iPod Touch instead. Continue Reading…

Should You Jailbreak iOS 5?

Should you jailbreak iOS 5? Yes, of course you should. I’m quite happy with my iPhone 4 on the semi tethered redsn0w jailbreak. So there are five Cydia apps I use all the time on iOS 5 that make jailbreaking a must. SBSettings, iFile, Activator, BiteSMS and PdaNet/MyWi are still must have features. I show each one in this video. Check it out and let me know where you are on jailbreaking your iOS device?

Groupon the Netflix of 2012

So if you read this website? Blog? Whatever it is you might know in a former life I followed stocks for a living. You also may have read previous posts about shorting RIMM (the crapberry maker) and using the money to buy AAPL (the ticker symbol for Apple stock). I said to short Netflix the day they raised prices. It feels good to be on a roll. So, I’m trying to find the next big thing to short and Groupon might be it. Did you know Groupon went public today? I know a lot of iPhone peeps use and love Groupon. It’s even bigger I think on Facebook. Continue Reading…

Google Chrome Winning

Excuse me while I go off iPhones and even mobile devices to talk browser market share. Ever since Google Chrome launched in December 2008, it’s been steadily gaining market share at the expense of Internet Explorer and Firefox. While the slow death of Internet Explorer seems inevitable, I’m a little surprised Firefox is slowly losing as well. This year alone Chrome’s market share has risen from the mid teens to almost 25%. Firefox has fallen from just over 30% to the about 25%. That’s right Chrome will shortly be the 2nd most used browser behind only Internet Explorer. IE has fallen about 5% to just above 40% market share. For the record, Safari, Opera and all other browsers account for less than 10% combined. Continue Reading…

We Benefit From Apple’s Delayed iTunes Match Launch

iTunes Match
Well I was wrong about Apple releasing iTunes Match over the weekend. Apple stated it would begin in October and missed the deadline. I think this is probably a good thing for the consumer. It obviously wasn’t ready as most those I follow that were testing it said it was slow and didn’t match nearly a high enough percentage of songs. Apple would be smart to get it right before rolling it out. They made the mistake of launching an immature product with their horrible Cards app which I reviewed here. Don’t make the same mistake again. iTunes Match is coming for sure, it’s just a question of when (remember the delays in the white iPhone!).
