Great news the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 has been released. This is the first jailbreak of any kind for iPhone 4S so servers are sure to slammed for the next 48 hours. The jailbreak is easy as I’ve already updated my iPad 2 to 5.0.1, re-jailbroke it and so far am experiencing no bugs (as expected). At the moment there is only a version for Mac. A Windows version should be out before the weekend is over. Greenpois0n.com is getting slammed so be patient or download the Mac version here instead. A working redsn0w version of this jailbreak will be out soon. Absinthe works for
iPhone 4S: 5.0 (9A334), 5.0.1 (9A405) & (9A406)
iPad 2: 5.0.1 (9A405)
All is right in the jailbreak world now as an untethered jailbreak exist for every iOS device on 5.0.1 now. Expect iOS 5.1 to be released soon, but don’t update if you want to keep your jailbreak. With the jailbreak now out expect some very cool Cydia tweaks involving Siri to follow shortly!
A Few Tips
1) If you want to carrier unlock your iPhone 4S you have to be on 5.0 not 5.0.1
2) Don’t have a passcode set when jailbreaking
3) If Absinthe crashes, just reboot and try again
4) If Absinthe won’t open you might have to wait for redsn0w
5) When you see “Error Establishing a Database Connection” on your device – that is normal. That is when you goto Settings on your iPhone or iPad and toggle the VPN on.
6) If you use VPN for anything else you must remove it from the list. If you don’t know what VPS is, then you don’t use it so don’t worry about it

I did the jailbreak, but when i enter cydia it doesnt allow me to download any packages. It simply says Done:Packages at the top with a scrolling bar. What do i do?
The repo you are trying to add might be down? What package are you trying to add and have you tried more than one?
I’d wait 24 hours try again, but if you let me know what your are trying to add (preferably 2 different ones) I can help better.

@Blackmamba20 – Update your iPad 2 to 5.0.1 then jailbreak with Absinthe. Do it soon as iOS 5.1 will be out fairly soon and then you won’t be able to do it so easily.

@Cutiepie @ballie88 it’s been out for quite a number of days. I just didn’t do a post on it since I already did this Mac one. Goto http://greenpois0n.com/ and in the upper right corner under Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 download Absinthe v0.2 (Win). It should work just like in the video here.
I want to jailbreak my ipad2, at the end of the video you say “now for the fun part”, is there a second part of your video? Once jailbroken do you have to add Sources to Cydia? Thank you for your help.

Hey hope sum1 can help me, i have never jail broken anything before but this one looked pretty simple to do, i upgraded my ipad 2 to the 5.0.1 and down loaded absinth for my windows laptop, it found my ipad and i clicked jail break, but then half way through it tell me the program has stopped work and closes down, done it about 5 times now, can any1 help?

sorry just a quick update i now seem to have cydia on my ipad but everytime i goto open it the icon just flashes and wont open. can any1 help please?
i think its cause my vpn wont turn on, just wont alow me to turn it on
ok so it rebooted and still left with cydia and it just flashed when i click on it and wont open………….
@Djmatty I would
1) try hard reboot (hold power and home button down for 10 seconds – when iPad turns off wait 5 seconds and tap power button to reboot) See if you can open Cydia.
2) Run Absinthe again
I think your VPN worked or else Cydia wouldn’t appear on your iPad 2. Just watch the video again and try again. It will work.
This is already the 2nd time I got cydia on here and both time done same thing

So what happens exactly when you tap Cydia? Any error message? During the jb, do you get the error message and then turn your VPN on?
When I tap cydia the screen just flashes as if it’s going to open but doesn’t, the error MSG I got was that VPN couldn’t turn on so I turned my wifi off and it restarted itself and there was cydia and as I said doesn’t open,
Have trust doing all the absinthe again this is the 2nd time I got this far and about 3 other times couldnt even get cydia, am I doomed not to have it
I have done this another 4 times now and still does the same, I scroll to unlock to click on absinthe the the iPad re sets and cydia is now in its place, but doesn’t open still just flashes, so I’m thinking this doesn’t work
@Djmatty it most certainly works as over a million people jailbroke their iPhone 4S or iPad 2 with Absinthe the first weekend.
It should work exactly like video since you updated to 5.0.1 and have an iPad 2 (exactly like the video). Do you get to the “Error Establishing a Database Connection” message?? IF yes, then you go into the settings on your iPad 2 and turn VPN on and get a message saying it can’t turn VPN on??? Don’t turn your wifi off. Leave it on and turn your VPN on. Have you ever used the VPN before? If so, remove all previous connections.
Watch the video again and see the first point where it differs.
i havew watched that vid about 25 times lol and done it step by step, in the first stages it was doing the vpn conection thing, then when i re-tried with absinth when i clocked on absinth it just re-booted and when turned back on cydia was in its place, but like i say when i click on cydia it wont open at all,
have watched the vid and the point it differs is the opening cydia, aits all the same up till that point lol

My only advice for you at this point is restore your iPad 2 as new and try again. Won’t take long to do that and you’ve tried so many times now just start clean again.
Everytime it hasn’t worked I have restored it as a brand new iPad, restored it about 8 times lol
after the jail break is done and it says to find absinth on ipad and click on it, when it opens it says waiting for absinth to finish, then after about 2 seconds a long green bar will pop up and say tap this to go into settings, but then its re boots itself and when it comes back on cydia is in its place and doesnt open. deffo cant be doing anything wrong from what the video shows
So you never see the error establishing database connection? You see a green bar. Just ignore the green bar for say a minute and see if anything happens. If not, don’t tap it. Try pressing the home button to get back to the home screen and then tap settings to turn your VPN on.
See if that makes any difference.
It works now and I have a working cydia, I just googled a different version of absinthe and it worked,

Yes, unless you install a cracked version through one of the repos. Depends on how many people are seeding it. Typically I’d say 30 minutes to an hour if going direct to iOS device.

btw im trying to download the movies to my ipad with wifi on . it runs very slow.
Try insanelyi, xsellze or sinful repos. I think they all have a cracked version.
As for speed depends on some on your wifi but also how many seeds/peers your torrent is downloading from. You should be able to get 500 KB/s which would download a 700MB avi movie in about 30 minutes. You can hit that on 3G (but watch your data plan). If you are getting less than 250 you might want to think about finding another torrent or just letting it run overnight.
When I download absinthe goes to my download lite ,how do I get it to stay on my desktop so I can open it like in your video

You are in luck however. Find a PC or Mac. Install iTunes or update to latest version of iTunes. Plug in your iPad and you’ll be asked to update to 5.0.1. When that’s done you can jb with redsn0w. Here is a guide

I finally updated and JB my ipad. I followed the instructions, but it stops when they say make sure you have Cydia. Now I have Cydia, what do I do?
