Cydia iAP Cracker – Free in app Purchases

Just watch the short video to see what this Cydia tweak does. In short, it allows you to make in app purchases for tons of apps for free. It doesn’t work for all apps, but there is lengthy list of apps listed for which it does. I believe it only works for iOS 5.0 and above which means it will not work on the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S until the jailbreak is released for these devices. This tweak can be found in the Xsellize or Insanelyi repos. If you don’t know how to add sources to Cydia you see how to add these two repos here.

Top Ten Winterboard Themes for 2011

Made a quick fun video showing off ten cool themes that I used on my iPhone or iPad at some point during 2011. The video shows the name and source for each theme which you can find in Cydia. My favorite one for the moment, Atomic Glow, is free.

Download Torrents to Your iPhone, iPad or iPod

I think some of you are going to like this. Ever had a movie, TV show, exercise video or anything else for which you couldn’t find a MegaUpload or FileServe link. Torrents are great option for getting these files on your iPhone, iPad or iPod. It’s actually quite easy to do as the video shows. The only catch, like many cool things you must be jailbroken as Apple will not approve any torrent downloading app for the App Store. Cydia to the rescue! For the links and step by step just hit continue reading after watching the video.

iOS 5 redsn0w jailbreak semi tethered

Well that didn’t take long. Less than 7 hours from posting that my advice was to wait for the untethered jailbreak, I decided what the heck. So I went from 4.3.1 to 5.0 on my iPhone 4. Re-jailbroke with redsn0w 0.9.9b7 and installed semi-tether from the BigBoss source. Redsn0w and Big Boss have been around forever and it worked fine. The hardest part was the hour it took my iMac to install iOS 5 and restore from backup. I had over 100 apps :) – Anyway, worst case is it reboots one day and I can’t use Cydia or Safari for a few hours. No biggie. Please watch the video and give me thumbs up for taking the plunge!
UPDATE 9/24 8:00AM – I should mention iBooks just crashes with this redsn0w jailbreak. No big deal for me as I don’t read iBooks and if I did I’d get an $80 Kindle for that. My guess is there will be a fix within a week or two.

Semi – Tethered Jailbreak

Jailbreaking
So you may have read about BigBoss releasing a semi-tethered jailbreak. If you don’t know the difference keep reading, but before I get asked again – The iPad 2 and iPhone 4S use the same A5 processing chip (at least that’s what I think it is) for which there is no jailbreak for iOS 5. People are working on that. Most other devices can be jailbroken on iOS 5. Specifically, the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G. However, it is a tethered jailbreak which I don’t recommend. This semi-tethered is better, but not ideal either. My advice, unless you really need it on your iDevice, just play around with iOS 5 and iCloud for awhile. The untethered jailbreak will be here soon enough. So if you want to know the difference between these jailbreaks Continue Reading…

Cydia App Review – iFile

iFile, BigBoss $4.00, is one of the two or three most popular Cydia apps and for many people the main reason to jailbreak. iFile gives you complete access to your iPhone, iPod or iPad file system. It’s basically like having windows explorer for you iDevice’s directories. This has tons of uses one of which is making it easy to manage and view your video files. With iFile you can watch not just mp4 but avi or mkv files in seconds. iFile can even unrar your movie files for you! Couple iFile with Downloads Lite and a free video player like OPlayer and you should have no troubles download and watching movies from almost anywhere. I don’t. So the next time I get asked (which will probably be today) how to watch a video file that won’t play I will just refer you to this post. Watch the video and for those that are not jailbroken and thus can’t get iFile . . . . WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?????

Cydia App Review – FlashCam

FlashCam
I’ve reviewed apps before that give you quick access to your camera. The majority of iPhone users have been a few seconds late at capturing a funny, meaningful or cute moment on the camera in either photo or video. This is such a lacking feature that even Apple is adding it shortly in iOS 5. FlashCam from BigBoss repo is a nice little tweak that adds a camera and flashlight button to your lock screen. Simple yet smart as like the camera, the flashlight is another feature of your iPhone for which you generally want to have immediate and fast access. Better yet, it sits right on top of your other lock screen tweaks like LockInfo. See the picture. Yes, it’s not the most attractive feature, but it’s effective. Tap the yellow flashlight button and your camera’s led light turns on. Tap the camera button and it launches. FlashCam installs into your Settings where you can choose to have the camera launch to photo or video and position the buttons at the top or bottom of your lock screen. If you can handle making your lock screen slightly less attractive I recommend you give it a try. FYI, if it doesn’t appear after installing just go into the Settings, select FlashCam and turn it off and then back on. You might also need to reboot once, but that’s it.

Best Five Cydia Sources

Now that you used jailbreakme 3.0 and have Cydia what do you do? Well, install the best sources on your iPhone, iPad, iPad 2 or iPod. Here I show you how simple this is to do. Like the jailbreak, no computer required. Sources (also known as repositories or repos for short) give you access to hundreds of themes, tweaks and any cracked app (Apple App Store or Cydia) that you might want. Now cracked apps is a touchy subject on a lot of quality iPhone Jailbreak websites. It’s an interesting dialog. Feel free to comment about it. Anyway, here is video showing how simple it is to do. The rest of this article has what I consider the five best Cydia sources.

Cydia App – Record your iPad 2 Screen

Mordi asked about recording the iPad 2 display. Yes, it can be done and it’s not very hard on your jailbroken iPad 2. You just need Display Recorder ($4.99) from Cydia. I’ve read Apple won’t allow screen recording for some odd reason so the only way you can do this is to jailbreak. Again, it’s so easy to do right now I would just install Cydia from jailbreakme.com even if you don’t use it yet. BTW, over 2,000,000 downloads! Now why might you want to do this? Well for me recording the display gives my YouTube Video a much crisper look than shooting through my best video recorder (my iPhone 4). For now it only records the video – no sound. Ok so watch the video and if you want the steps to do this

What Cydia Apps to Add to Jailbroken iPad 2!

I am one happy camper playing with my iPad 2 now that it’s jailbroken thanks to Comex! BTW, over 1,000,000 downloads from jailbreakme.com in 24 hours. Not surprised and I’m sure the vast majority were iPad 2. If you haven’t jailbroken already you really should. Just watch the video here it’s so easy, reversible and legal. So what have I installed and am playing with? Watch the video and then continue reading to see instructions. As always please comment. It makes me feel loved. I’ve also added a new poll. Which of these apps/tweaks would you most want – RetinaPad, Multi-Touch gestures, FolderEnhancer, FullForce?
