Real quick, no movies released this week as most request were answered in Forum. Lots of new TV shows from the weekend and last night so check them out.

Now for the news! In case you missed it, there has been a lot of iPhone news the past 48 hours centered around jailbreaking and VoIP (voice over IP). First, AT&T announced today it would allow VoIP over its 3G network. This is great news if you use apps like Skype. Now you can pretty much use Skype everywhere all the time (not just when you have a Wi-Fi connection). This will save some of you a ton of money especially if you make international calls a lot (yes Canada is an international call). However, I almost never make international calls so this news wasn’t too exciting to me. Furthermore, this doesn’t help Google Voice as Apple is the one preventing this (they rejected their app) or streaming video apps like Slingplayer as there is no way AT&T is close to letting this happen. In my opinion, streaming video apps would crash their network so they just can’t let it happen For me, these are two bigger issues that given time will happen too. We can only hope sooner rather than later. In the meantime apps like 3G Unrestrictor will have to do the trick!

The other news has been around jailbreaking. And there has been a lot. First, GeoHot announced that he had found a way to jailbreak all iPods, iTouch and iPhones!! That’s right a universal all-in-one jailbreak. Shortly after that, Chronic Dev, said they were working on the same thing. This would be awesome for dummies like me. Jailbreaking gets a little confusing in that there is Qckpwn, PwnageTool, redsn0w, purplera1n, ipcc files, ipsw files, ultrasn0w (that’s for unlocking not jailbreaking) and sn0wbreeze and greenpois0n on the way. I’m sure I left out a few, but you get the point. It’s a lot to have to sift through. Thus, the battle going on between GeoHot and Chronic Dev for a universal jailbreak is a great thing. We should see something in a week or so if not sooner.

Bottom line – if you’ve not jailbroken your iDevice because it looked a little too hard, that could all be changing really soon!!!!

Hope everyone is well. Added Face Off for calebcj85, Fast Times at Ridgemont High for 115sm2330, The Boondock Saints, The Goods: Live Hard Sell Hard and ET. On TV shows we started adding Reaper and Mad Men. Finales of True Blood and Hung should be up very soon along with Entourage. I also posted a number of links in the Forum so check there to see if your request has been met. Also, consider adding to your profile please. Most of the Forum links are through linkbucks which is slightly annoying but many uploaders use it to make a little extra cash. Hope you all appreciate that we only link directly to megaupload (no spam) and only to mp4 files.

So someone asked me why would you want to tether your iPhone? My reply was why wouldn’t you? Maybe your Comcast connection goes dead at home or you are on a five hour car trip with kids – its good to have options. And its sooooo easy that its perfect for idiots. Tethering is essentially using your iPhone as a modem. You plug it into a PC or Mac via USB and as long as you have a 3G connection, you have internet. All you need is OS 3.0 or higher on your iPhone, iTunes 8.2 or higher, Windows XP with at least Service Pack 2 (or Mac OS 10.5 or higher), and about 5 minutes to install one file. Update! This does not work with firmware 3.1.2 unless you patched commcenter file. This is more advanced to do. I’m looking into another idiot way and will let you know. In meantime the advanced way is here.We explain it all here with a video at the end showing how. OK, so your PC or Mac meets the minimum requirements I just mentioned. Heck, you’re almost done. Open Safari on your iPhone (not your Mac or PC) and goto http://help.benm.at

You should be taken the screen shown here on the right. Scroll down until you see Mobileconfigs download > and go ahead and click on download. Once you do this you are taken to a Country screen where you select where you reside – USA most likely (maybe Canada). After clicking on your country, the next screen ask you to choose your carrier (AT&T or T-Mobile most likely). After that it installs the Mobileconfigs file. Reboot your iPhone and navigate to Settings – General – Network – and you should see Internet Tethering. Turn it on. For a PC you should see a new Local Area Connection titled Apple Mobile Device. For a Mac, you should see a network called iPhone. If you don’t see it, reboot your iPhone one time and also open up iTunes and connect your iPhone to iTunes one time. The first thing I tethered to was my Mac at home. You’ll know its working when your iPhone turns blue at the top like in the picture on the left. The download speed over 3G was respectable 100K while the upload was painfully slow 17K. Thus, I’m not going to run out and cancel my Comcast and try to save $40 per month. The speed isn’t quite there yet and big brother (AT&T in this case) could cut you off if they figured out what you were doing. That said, it is good to have the ability to tether cause you never know when you might need it. I’ve started a thread in the Forum about tethering for anyone who has questions.
